Does ProDiag have same functionality as Vag-Com?
I don't need ProDiag to perform exactly like Vag-Com, but I'd like to do the basics such as view/clear faults, change convenience features, and view/store data logs.
Any 1st-hand experience would be greatly appreciated.
I have this unit and am very happy I did not go Ross-Tech even though I did want it prior. I always have the PDA in the glovebox and never have to bring my laptop with me. I use a Sony Clie so all my data is saved via Memory Stick which plugs directly into my Sony notebook.

The more expensive VAG-COM also has turbo mode diagnostics (sampling rates 2 or 3x faster than the prodiag system.) They also have the option for direct CAN communication which is needed for some of the newer vehicles). Neither of these are functions that the ProDiag tool is not capable of.
The Pro-Diag tool is good for vehicles up to those using Dual-K technology (which is fine for our B6s). The total cost for the cable + software is $250. There's an additional $20-60 cost for the serial dongle that you will need for your Palm.
The VAG-COM tool is as low as $230 (for serial), ($250 for key-usb adapter.) This is also good for dual-K line support.
Both devices have their places. For me a laptop is more practical. I keep all my VAG-COM scans on my laptop and its an easy place for me to reference everything. Also, when people ask me to scan their cars, I can easily take the VAG-COM scan and send it off in an email since its on the same computer.
