What happened to your engine ?? If oil sludge, timing belt, water pump or coil pack failure, EVER...you should demand audi to replace your engine...they had many problems with that engine,,,all serious...

In the early years of the B6's, a lot of shops and some dealers used Dino oil together with a 10k change interval. This was a great sludge recipe. Nowadays, it's 5k with full synthetic.

The orig owner of my car (03) had everything done at the dealer, rigorously maintaining the service intervals. At 86k, the head self-destructed,to the tune of $4500. Audi tried to wiggle out of it, but eventually split it with him. I looked at the receipt, and didn't see anything about dropping the pan and cleaning the pickup screen, but bought the car anyway at 101k. At 155k now, no problems.

I'm second owner on my 2003 A4 1.8T , had 71000 when I bought it in '07, has 125,000 now...not sure if prior owner used syn for 1st 4 yrs and first 71000, but I have always used syn, and chged every 3-4000 miles....audi sent me letter for ext warr to 100k miles or 10 years if sludge problems, and so far, all good...did your "self destruct head" happen b/c of broken timing belt or cam chain ?? and I would think when they replaced head, if saw sludge, they would have dropped the pan for clean up...what do you know about codes P0411 and P0420 problems on these cars ???
