Default look at the turbo, check for pink crust

i had the yoke back of the head leak, it dripped pink crust (G12) on the bellhousing area. sounds exactly like what happens when there is air in the cooling system.

look all around for the pink crust..

Default air?? is that something major?

I have it scheduled for tuesday, they are going to replace the engine coolant, cause somewhere down the road it got mixed up with the geen stuff.... I guess I'll have them check this issue too

Default ouch green stuff not good to mix. but look for pink crust to notify them

there's always a leak where pink crust is concerned. also take the 1.8T engine cover off and look around the drivers side for leaks too and in the front where the water pump is (top dead center front dripping down).

the dealer is amazing at skipping over the obvious

Default no pink crust, but.....

I didn't find any pink crust, but I did notice that the fluid level had gone down, I just topped it off yesterday, there must be leak somewhere!!!! If there is a leak, could that cause the engine temperature sensor to malfunction?

Default yes; i just told you the neck where the green cts is a HIGHLY likely place back there

for every drop of coolant that leaves, air replaces it. Air goes up, green cts happens to be at the top of the head ..

it makes really wierd stuff happen since the ecu is using mapped coolant temps.

thats why alot of peeps need to replace the green cts and the water neck on the back of the head. It was like 1.0hr labor and like $30 for new parts (neck and green cts). solved my issue.

air in the coolant system is very very bad as it causes hot spots and aluminum will warp in seconds when overheated. learned that a while ago killed my 87 gti head in like 30 seconds due to a hose i knew was leaking. It's definitely not something you just want to put off.

also the O-ring on the water neck goes bad alot on our car too. mine was fine, but there was a hairline crack.

if you turn off your car listen for anything that sounds like dripping/sizzling.
