I've searched the forums and there have been posts about the transmission failing on CVTs. Anyone know if this is this a major issue or just isolated cases? I want to keep the car for a while, so I guess extended warranty is the way to go. My local Audi dealer quoted me ~$3200 for platinum coverage. Does that sound reasonable? I haven't tried Warranty Direct, but I gather most of you are happy with them? I currently have about 29000 miles on the car.

I realize that there have been several stories of $13K repair bills (paid for under warranty by AoA) on this board. But do we have any reason to believe the CVT is actually significantly less reliable *on average* than any other transmission?? Are there any articles on CVT reliability? Any lawsuits?

If there is any significant risk of a 13K repair bill, I would probably ditch the car, rather than pay $3K for a warranty, even though I was hoping to keep it until 100K miles.

Interesting question--wonder if there are any disclosure laws for such stats? Probably not.
