Default Getting started on a project, engine/trans work.

Hey, I've acquired a 2003 A4 B6 that needs some work to get on the road and I'm looking for some advice. It currently needs a head gasket, clutch and timing belt. While it's apart, i'll be checking it over for anything else it might need. So I'm wondering, for the sake of convenience, would it be worth removing the engine, trans with the subframe to make everything more accessible? At that point, is there anything else that I can only do while it's apart? I'm planning on doing some minor performance modifications and i'll eventually be autocrossing it. Besides that, are there any quick/cheap modifications I can do to clean up the engine bay, make things more accessible, lighten the car a little bit and generally make things a little bit neater? Thanks!
