A tip on how to loose the wiper arms.
Just fixed my wiper transmission today thanks to Merkin and Paul W! Works wonderful. Used som Gary Fisher bicycle grease I had lying around...
My wiper arms were stuck real hard, tried to hit the pivot with a hammer as mentioned above but that didnt help, neither did my swedish anticorrodant spray. So, maybe unortodox I got them loose by stopping the wiper with my hand while the wiper motor were running - worked on both arms (after the bolts had been removed of course...). That forced the arms loose - strong motor...
Almost destroyed the pivot while forcing it out of the transmission - a lot of rust!!! swedish winter and all the salt on the roads hasnīt helped preventing from corrosion...

Broken Spindle Bracket - how to separate ball socket
I have the same problem as Milwaudia4
The wiper motor actually twisted the frozen spindle until it broke off of the support bracket.
So, I bought a new bracket at the dealer - part number 8E1-955-603-D @ $200 - removed the wiper / motor assembly (note, I used a gear puller to get the wiper arms off of the spindles - loosen the nuts several turns then hook up the puller such that the screw is held in place by the loosened bolt - this keeps the puller in place and prevents the arm from flying off to scratch something)
My problem now, is how do you separate the ball and socket joint connecting the linkage from the motor to the spindle? Is this pressed in or is there some trick / tool I need?
Thanks for your help. I think this is the last hurdle before I'm done.

just knocked this DIY out over the weekend. great write up and
saved a ton of money. remember you have to unload the wiper arm by lifting up after taking the nut off. I also removed the gold nut at the wiper motor to remove the arms. Just have to resync the motor after you put the transmission back in. Thanks for the write up.

For those of us that did the repair rather than replace the transmission with the new style (with new seal) unit, be prepared to do it again in a year or two. I had to re visit my first repair (using marine grease) because the water once again got into the transmission unit and caused additional corrosion. That seal has been added for a reason.
