I was ticketed! (Long)

This morning when I was driving on the routine way head to my office, just about before getting on highway (it was downhill), my old radar (please see my sign) shout suddenly. At that time, I knew it was not a false alarm. So I slowed down and I saw a unmarked police car just parking 200m ahead. I thought my old radar did work!

However, when I was off and on the way home this evening, I was suddenly stopped by a police AGAIN and he showed me his laser gun, 85km. He asked my driver licence & insurance paper. When he back, he handed me a CAD$196 ticket becasue I was 85km when the municipality limit was 50km. He asked me what kind of detector I was using and asked me to show him my radar. I said it was a old and useless radar because I was not alerted at all when he pointed the laser at me. And the police told me that some detectors were illegal to use in the Province of BC, Canada. So I asked what kind of detectors were illegal. He said that the laser jammer was illegal. By using the laser jammer in BC, the user might face the crimial charge. Becasue the laser jammer does not let the polices do their job, but radar detectors work differently. So it it legal to use a radar detecor in BC but not laser jammer. And finally, he reminded me that I was driving over speed limit by 35km. By more than 40km, I would be faced a crimial charge and would be on the crimial record.

By the way, the police told me that if I paid the ticket within 30 days, I could get a $25 discount. What a NICE police!

Lesson Learned: I must upgrade my radar detector as soon as possible. Any suggestions?

I am wondering if the police told me the truth that we can not use lasser jammer in BC. It seems that there is no any detector can warn if the police uses a laser and points at licence plate not windshield. My question is if I use a laser jammer, can the police know that I have a laser jammer in my car to interfere the laser when the police points at my car?

I am thinking to buy Passport 8500 X50 and Escort Shifter ZR3 to get the fully protection. Is it a good choice?

Some jammers, like the Lidatek, are supposed to be undetectable

But I don't doubt that they're illegal. Then again, a couple guys from BC have them and have yet to get into trouble...

laser jammers are illegal in the states, im sure they are in canadia too

besides that, yes radars can work... if it's laser, whether or not it's aimed at your licence plate or at windshield... you are busted...

laser isnt reflecting out in waves like standard band radar... so you dont pick up reflective points before he gets you.

a radar detector works if... a cop is shooting his radar at OTHER cars (or if he just leaves it on) and you pick up radar that has been reflected off of other cars, before he actually aims it at yours.

if he just points it right at you, even if it's plain radar... and he shoots, then he got you. you get a signal, but that signal is basically that you are getting pulled over...

and when using a jammer, the cop doesnt know you are jamming, but his radar gun can get a delayed return.

a jammer doesnt just not let him read the speed, it basically delays it... when you get hit, it goes off, and you slow down. then the radar finally gets returned to the cop, but from your lower speed

im getting this info from a guy on here who tested a laser jammer that he had, with a cop friend of his

Re: I was ticketed! (Long)

Hey! I just found that the police did not ask me to sign at the bottom of the speeding ticket. Is it a good excuse for the dispute of that ticket. Or it doesn't matter if I signed at the ticket or not? Anyone?

It is not illegal to use a radar detector in BC

Laser jammers "might" be illegal in BC but in the US since laser is regulated by the FDA they can be sold and used.

Anyway I haven't been hit by a laser gun yet but a jammer works by pulsing a matched signal back to the gun, the laser gun gets a blank reading, the detector warns you that you got targeted so you slow down. The system then shuts down (Lidatek) or you shut it down (SR7) so the officer can aquire a reading and thinks the first non reading is a gun error.

I have the Passport SR7 system installed and will have dual Lidateks installed soon as well. Since it a stealth install there is no way an officer can pinpoint my radar and shifter units unless they specifically know what to look for.

Having a radar unit hanging from your windshield just gives a cop more reason to pull you over if they have a beef with you.

V1 slow down eh.

Heh when i visited the great north i was like dayum the speed limit is 100! with 50km/h crosswinds on that big ass lake where the pirate ship bar was (7 foot swells!) the little malibu that my mom-in-law to be was strugglin to keep the windshield wipers from lifting off in the rain.

didn't occurr to me till we were in the city toronto that it was km/h lol.

i'd be like EH im AMERICAN we dont use that metrics sheot.

i was under the impression laser jammers were legal and radar jammers were illegal

MB The Body 07-21-2005 02:46 AM

i have the passport 8500 x50 and love it... for laser

detection is not enough... so if its an issue and you want jammers... go for lidatek or blinder

both are considered better than the scort shifter jammer

I think thats only if you are sending the ticket in to pay it.
