Audi UK A4 range update: New equipment upgrades for 'bespoke' Audi A4

Jan 28, 2003: Audi AG - Audi A4 Saloons gain new, more luxurious specification for the UK.

- New specification for SE and Sport option packs - price premiums remain unchanged at £610 and £900
- SE pack is available free of charge and Sport pack available at £290 until March 31st
- Colour keyed bumpers now available at an extra cost of £400

Upgrading to the much in demand Audi A4 SE or A4 Sport has become an even more attractive proposition in Britain this year, thanks to significant enhancements to these popular equipment packages. The new 2003 SE specification will also be available until March 31st 2003 at no extra cost.

Already established as one of the most bespoke prestige cars in the medium segment, the accomplished A4 range attracted almost 30,000 British customers in 2002, and of these around 90 per cent chose to equip their cars with personalising option packages from the exhaustive list available. Exotic items like a glovebox refrigerator and television with teletext were among the luxuries ordered by A4 buyers.

New Options
The new optional specification packs, just launched, now include more striking alloy wheel designs - also now of a larger diameter for Sport models - giving the A4 saloon and Avant even more road presence. Ten of the available paint choices can now also be extended to cover the bumpers at an extra cost of £400.

The new SE package, currently available at no extra cost, has now been upgraded to include cruise control and rear electric windows (previously standard only for six-cylinder versions) for all SE-equipped models. 16-inch, 5-arm Trapez design alloy wheels also replace the 16-inch, 5-arm 'aero' design originally fitted.

Choosing the Sport option, costing £900 (£290 until 31st March 2003), will from now on bring 17-inch 'Five Spoke Star' alloy wheels, which replace the 16-inch wheels originally included. The package also now features a Concert II stereo with single front loading CD player (except A4 Cabriolet Sport).

A 24 model highly 'bespoke' UK range
The 28,773 A4 examples sold in the UK in 2002 comprised a wide range of models. Six petrol engines ranging from 102PS to 220PS are available for the Audi A4 saloon and Avant, including the remarkable new 2.0-litre FSI direct injection unit, which offers an exceptional trade-off between power and economy that is currently unrivalled in the compact executive class. This engine delivers 150PS and 200Nm of torque, and enables the FSI saloon to reach 62mph from rest in 9.6 seconds and continue to a 135mph maximum speed. At the same time it is capable of covering just under 40 miles per gallon of petrol (combined cycle), and achieves an impressively low, tax-efficient CO2 output of 170g/km.

The range also comprises four turbocharged four and six-cylinder diesel TDI units with outputs from 100bhp to 180bhp. One of these - the smooth and refined 2.5 TDI with 163bhp - has been installed beneath the bonnet of the much admired new A4 Cabriolet, creating Britain's only diesel-powered production convertible.

Multitronic - automatic with no penalties
A number of these petrol and TDI engines can be allied to the new and unique Audi Multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which eliminates the need for sacrifices in performance, fuel economy and general driveability in exchange for a more relaxed drive. In many cases, this revolutionary transmission enables a multitronic-equipped car to match the performance, fuel economy and CO2 output of a manual equivalent - an achievement which sets automatic A4 models apart from their prestige compact executive rivals.

Audi also offers the most comprehensive range of models equipped with four-wheel-drive in the sector. The safest possible drive configuration for UK roads is a feature of eight quattro saloon and Avant versions of the A4.

On the road prices for the A4 saloon range from £17,690 for the A4 1.6 to £24,890 for the A4 3.0 quattro. Avant models start with the 1.6 at £18,820, and finish with the 3.0 quattro at £26,020.

Concert II stereo with single front loading CD player

like a neck gaiter...imagine a short scarf that's connected at the ends, goes around your neck.
