Jetta and A4 sharing/shared the same platform?
Also, when I checked on where they were made, A4 was of course made at Ingolstadt, while the Jetta is made somewhere in Mexico.
Maybe was she referring to the first gen A4 model, before the redesign, or what? It just doesn't seem like they would have ever shared the same platform to me.
Anyone know any of this?
The Audi A4 has a larger platform, longitudinal engines, an independent rear suspension, 4 link front suspension, and is mostly built in Germany.
The Passat is based on the old A4 platform. The old A4 was introduced in '95. The Passat in the current form came out in '98. Anybody who has driven the two cars, knows how different they are.
The next gen A3 will debut at the Paris auto show this Fall. Pictures are circulating on both the next Golf and the A3. The Jetta/Bora will come later. It will continue with the transverse engines. The next Passat is slated to share a wider and longer version of that platform with possible use of Haldex in the case that AWD is used. The engine bay will fit the VR6 and inline 5cyl diesel, but nothing larger than that. The W8 will be used in the Phaeton, A8, etc.
