It's a problem without orange reflectors according to DOT standards afaik :(

For the view of the car from the side? I ask because it seems you could modify those small

'side of the car' turn signal lights to meet the law requirements (they blink amber).

PlacitasNM (aka Ken) 01-27-2003 10:24 PM

Well, maybe not. I just found this DOT lighting requirements link. Oops .. It's for Canada.

Oops. Just realized this is for Canada.<ul><li><a href="http://www.aamva.org/Documents/vehEquipmentLightingFedMotorVehiclePresentation.PD F">http://www.aamva.org/Documents/vehEquipmentLightingFedMotorVehiclePresentation.PD F</a</li></ul>

lemme guess...Menlo Cop?

Nice they took time from their latte to ding you. In PA I got ticketed, no front plate. Without warning, these jokers have been enforcing the smallest bit of vehicle code...they must not have anything to do.

Here's an interesting NHTSA link relating to after-market lighting ...

Can you just get some adhesive and yellow reflectors and put them on there on when needed?

Are they actually going to check for the DOT number?

Check the second page of the 'Missing Functions' section of this NHTSA link. Doesn't look good.

against the law? a lot of cars don't have orange reflectors though

PlacitasNM (aka Ken) 01-28-2003 12:26 AM

The law says that the lighting must conform to original equipment manufacturer's specifications.

It looks like there's no way around it. It looks like PYC2002 needs to find a way to get those reflectors back in there (temporary glue or something). Or, like he says, maybe he could borrow a set or originals from someone else.
