Default What problems are you having exactly? Here's my situation...

Last year my car started taking like 2 or 3 cranks to start; cold or hot engine. The codes showed a weak signal for the key and immobilizer start block code, intermittent. Based on a post from another AW member, I took the key(s) to the dealer to reprogram them. After that, the engine start blocking was gone - started everytime. Never had it again for a year.

Now just last week, I'm getting the same symptoms again with the same codes. What a POS system! So every year I have to go spend $50 to get my keys reprogrammed. Audi never ceases to amaze me with their knack for creating money generating ideas on BS issues that nobody else has.

Please share whatever you find on this issue. I'd love to know what your experice is.

Default Pretty much the same as you but...

I do not get the weak signal code. I get the engine blocked by immobilizer and lately I will be driving down the road and my alarm starts going off... while driving, so I have to pull over and restart the car.

I have had the key re-programed at the stealership once. Did not seem to help. Replacing the batteries in the key doesn't seem to work either.

Vag com shows the same code everytime.

I agree, what a system!

Default I think I had to go into the convenience block to get that weak signal

code. I'm not sure if it even came out on the full auto-scan. Anyway, I've never heard of the alarm going off while driving. Wow, I guess thats how bad it can get.

Maybe you need to replace the coil in the ignition or something. I read a thread about someone having to do that as well. (search is currently down) I'm not sure about the relation to the alarm system though.

I'm thinking/hoping that there's somthing else that can be fixed to prevent having to reprogram keys every year.

I had read on here that a user knew a process of disabling the Immobilizer. I emailed him but have not got a response.

Default I feel your pain- I'm having the same issues

A similar ordeal was discussed here. A new ignition switch was recommended. I'm trying to find out if that acually solved the problem. I really don't want to go to the dealer. My error codes are:
18062/P1654- Check DTC memory of instrument cluster: No signal/ communication- intermittent
17978/P1570- Engine start blocked by immobilizer, signal implausible- intermittent
18017/P1609- Crash shutdown activated- upper limit exceeded, present
Cluster ECU codes 01039- Coolant Temperature senson (G2) open or short to ground- intermittent
01176- Key signal too low- intermittent, present.
Central electronics ECU code 00474- Control module for immobilizer, no cummunication, present

For diagnostic purposes, codes were cleared, then the various ECU's were rechecked. Code 01176 recurred; code 00474 would not clear and then self-cleared.

Also, once in a while after starting, the emergency flashers will go on and won't turn off until I restart the car. I've tried "cold booting" the car and that seamed to work for about 1/2 a day. I have two keys and both do this. One key won't operate as a remote. I recently put new batteries in both keys, but that didn't solve the problems.

Sounds like you need that new switch. Mine will probably get to this point as well. I'm going to talk to a friend of a friend of mine who's an Audi tech this week and ask him about it. I'll post back.

I have been thinking all along that it is the switch.Just been waiting on some people to follow up with an email on the layout and pictures they say they have.
