Default MPG Question? All answers appreciated.

I have a 1.8T quattro automatic and it is chipped. My milage is terrible. A full tank goes about 250 miles. The question is whether this is normal? And whether there is anything that can be done. I was told the car might be running "lean", and I have no idea what "lean" means. So if anyone can share there milages with me, or can answer any of the other questions it would be much appreciated.

Default do you drive like a madman? as in flooring it everytime off the line?

drive conservatively, it'll do wonders for you.

If you do drive conservatively, try getting some Chevron Engine cleaner with Techron. your injectors may be a little clogged. if anything, try getting your engine tuned, that could possibly be a problem.

i do have a tendency to drive hard, but not to warrant this kind of milage.

Default How many miles do you have on it?

My mileage suffered early on, but without a chip, I get 350 city and 480 on the highway, per tank, driving spiritedly, if that is a word.

CHips I, from other posts, can reduce mpg up to 3mpg if you drive harder.

Default I think a lot.

of it depends on the type of driving you do. A lot of start-ups, many redlights/stopsigns, short distance trips, traffic. Ive heard a car can average 6 mpg until it warms up to operating temperature. It might help if you can describe the type of driving you do. I get awful mileage but it has to do with the conditions above. When I am doing more "normal" driving (like highway, my numbers increase significantly. What does the comptuer read as distance to empty right after you fill the tank?
