1. What is the piece called in the picture? it goes under the transmission and holds it up and the tranny mount connects to it. Its white metal and connects to the frame on both sides.
2. how do i find out what engine code i have, ex. AMW, ATW etc?

looks like you broke your crossmember. how did you do that? your engine code in on a little tab (m)
Engine number
The engine number (" Engine code " and "Serial number") can be found on the rear left of the cylinder block.
Additionally there is a sticker on the toothed belt guard giving the " Engine code " and "Serial number".
The engine code is also given on the vehicle data sticker.
Note:
The engine code is also stamped on the front lifting eye (visible when engine cover panel is removed).

Re: looks like you broke your crossmember. how did you do that? your engine code in on a little tab
some *** hole in storage was movin cars with a forklift and must have ****ed it up real good

Ouch!!! If you are referring to the engine number, it is located...
on the side of the block below the intake manifold, close to the gearbox (1.8T). The spot is very hard to get to and you will need a torch with a flexible extention. Furthermore, the number is painted over at the factory, so you will need to remove the paint first.
