Default Newbie Question: ECU mods safe ? Why not provided by Audi ?
Hi,
I have been monitoring these NGs for a while now, and as a new Audi A4 1.8T Quattro owner, I am wondering if all these ECU mods are safe ( +30 HP for instance), and why does Audi not implement them ? A 197HP 1.8T would be a
lot more appealing than 167HP.

Is it a marketing issue, or are the mods akin to overclocking a CPU on a computer: it works, but it is pushing the design limits of the equipment.

Much easier to provide a warranty on an engine that is held within ultra safe thresholds

True, but in Europe they sell a factory chip with about 195hp... like a stage 1 here

True...but then again they do a LOT of different things in Europe. hehe

Default I think it's primarily marketing in the US. Since the 3.0 is 220 hp (m)
it would definitely eat into the sales of the 3.0 if they increased the HP/torque of the 1.8T.

Agreed. It's already hard enough to justify the 6k difference between the two models
