I have '02 A4 1.8TQ with 3500 miles. I added oil twice to full mark, once at 1500miles, about 200ml, followed with about 150ml at 3500 miles. This should be within tolerances, but I would like to hear if anybody else is having the same and if this is acceptable. I had cars before and I never had to add any oil between oil changes. The engine is still having the original factory oil with which it was broken in.

Beat on it and add a heavy oil like 20w-50 or even strait 40w when low.

I would use 5W40 if you add any, change the oil at 5K not 10, if the oil consumption is this high you either have a ring problem or a bad breakin procedure

I followed the brake in procedure to the letter as stated in the manual. I have some technical background and I have also broken in cars before. Oil I added was 0W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic, as given in the manual. As it is now, fits within the tolerances, however if it continues, than it is a problem but as indicated on the forum not according to AUDI, untill 1qt per 1000 miles is reached. I will keep a close eye on it.
