Default Wrong type of diverter valve?

I recently bought my a4 b6 and fell in love with it. But it was lacking power and it would be hard for it to get going whenever I stepped on the gas. I did the basics ie. changed oil(full synthetic), spark plugs, fsi coils, air filter, samco tip. But nothing was changing the performance of it till I saw the forge dv. So low and behold I take it out and see one of the dv hose plugged up, looked up which model it was and looks similar to this one

My question is would this have done any damage to the engine in any sort of way? Would this be the culprit on why it's hard to get it going from a dead stop?
