My 2002 a4 1.8t keeps throwing codes for the tempature sensor and it turns off the abs and traction control until I turn off the car and restart it is it expensive to replace or should I wait until I do the timing belt

Which one? Do you have the code? I just did mine, used this writeup:

It is pretty simple, just take your time to make sure you get it seated correctly. It would take an indy shop an hour plus sensor cost.

The engine temp sometimes fluctuated (the needle would jump), and then I ultimately got a check engine light, although it may have been from a bad coil pack since I had a cylinder 3 misfire as well. There was a slight idle fluctuation but again, it could have been the misfires. Anyways, I replaced the sensor, and coil packs and plugs and all is well (although I have a leaky valve cover gasket that needs attention next).
