Question about glove box door problem
 

So I have the familiar glove box door hinge problem that's been discussed a lot around here (pic below). Do I just need a new glove box door, and is this the cheapest fix?

You can buy just the door...but its not cheap!

epoxy + modify the door strut

took to dealer and they fixed it for free. no payment of any form. they were nice.... about the only time they were

I tried to use CA but it didn't work. It didn't look like epoxy would have bonded to the plastic.

I ended up fabing a piece of brass sheet 1/2 inch wide and bent to ~90 degrees then pop riveted it to the hinge with two rivets on each leg. I used small rivets that I would guess to be 1/16 inch.

Its been working fine with a lot of use (hiding GPS and radar detector there whenever I leave the car). The door side is a bit low making it a bit difficult to get the latch to work every time but once latched it holds.

mine broke just like that too. The dealer said that is actually the damper that fails. It is a litte too hard to close, then the door cracks. So if you just fix the door, you may still have the actual problem.

close but then one day a local RNS-E navigation system "expert" installed my navigation system and was routing a wire behind the glovebox so he took the glovebox out. He was having some trouble putting it back in and then I noticed the door was cracked, but he wouldn't own up to it.

I found a new, in the box, door on E-Bay for $175. Also, if you do a search their is a DIY mod for the dampers that will prevent the door from breaking again.

Yeah, a month ago or so when I was looking for a door I found some on ebay but not now.
 

I saw that DIY mod for the dampers, I'll have to dig up the thread.
