Default Squeaky brakes are about my only complaint. What to do?....

I find myself braking late to prevent the squeaking because they don't squeak at moderate pressure. They always squeak with light braking while moving slow.

Any better suggestions?

Thanks

Audi of America produced brochures that are at Audi dealership service departments I've seen lately. Once of them covers brake squeal, what causes it, and says it's "normal".

However, Audi also had a service bulletin a while back on how service departments can resolve the brake squeal and in what situations they should do it under warranty.

The conclusion (in my opinion)? Ask your service department nicely if they could eliminate your brake squealing, since the car is fairly new, etc. They remove the brake pad and perform a few things to help dampen the vibration that results in the squeal.

Default I keep thinking it will subside with more wear. And yes, with 2K mi, its still new.

I'll live with it till the 5K service. Or is that 10K? I'll find out soon enough.

Default Same problem. Very annoying at every stop light.

Took it into the dealer and they said its normal. Told me to apply greater pressure to the pedal and it won't make the noise. But I don't want to be slamming my brakes on when I should be able to gently apply them. When the 10K service comes up soon I am going to demand that they be fixed.

Default Mine do the same thing and....

I am getting sick of it. Exactly how you said it. I have about 4,000 miles on the car and I don't feel like going to the dealership until I go for my 5,000 mile oil change. They never squeak in the rain I noticed. Only when stopping lightly.

Default This is very normal and common on the Gen 1 A4 and won't be any different in the Gen 2 A4..

The non-asbestos brake pads have a tendency to squeal. For most owners there won't be any fix. Antisqueal coating on the back of the pad backing plates may help. Just go out and do some 70 to 0 hard stops a few times with cooling time(a minute or 2) in between stops may help. I bedded in my brakes this way with 10 consecutive stops when new and no squealing so far!

Go to the Gen 1 forum and search the archives for brake squeal......search return overload!

My take on this: Modern brakes squeak! Your rotors are metal, and modern pads are semi-metallic (at least most decent ones are). You rub metal on metal, you get squeaking.

Some pads squeak more than others. For example, I have a 911 that sees 90% track-use / 10% street-use. I have race pads on it, and they squeak VERY loudly. Heh heh, when people point it out, I always say, "What, your brakes don't squeak? Something must be wrong -- I'd have that checked out!" ;-)

Take care, all!

Default RI had the same problem too.. It is especially annoying when you are going down slope..

Took it to my dealer, and they asked me if had driven it too hard and wear off the pad..Unlikely right when my car only has 4.5K on it..why would i bring it to track...
