Still bitchin' about Audi fit-and-finish...
Yeah, I love my Avant. But so many little details are really starting to bug me.
- the crooked door trim
- rear bumpers that protrude past the lower grey cladding enough to be annoying
- exhaust pipes that do not extend out equally from the rear valance, nor are centered in the valance cutouts
- incredibly weak paint that chips if you sneeze on it (exacerbated by the dark Dolphin color, Canvas Beige please!)
Thankfully, most is forgotten when flogging the 1.8. But I'm just a bit concerned about Audi's self-proclaimed build quality.

The rear bumper protruding past the lower grey is by design - look at the older A6's - that's (more)
fully painted and one piece, and there is still a lip/overhang the same way as the new A4. I think they did it to emphasize a weight line there by the shadow it creates.
But yeah, those others really suck! Fortunately, mine have the trim or exhaust problems that yours does, but I did make sure to get a clear bra on the front right away to protect the paint. VW/Audi's paint has been soft and easily chipped ever since they switched to water-based paints.

Well if my '97 Brilliant Black had water based paint....zero chips
in 5 years in northeastern PA (bad winters) always outside, 40 mile round trip to work, snow, antiskid material, etc...not one nick...really amazing! Traded the car on a '02 Brilliant Black.....dealer couldn't believe the car looked like it was just painted, no nicks, dent or scratches...lasted one day on the lot.
Bottom line....hope the '02 BB is just as good. The only thing I can think of that may have helped and I will prove it with the '02 is that I used Meguiars Show Car Glaze followed by their Premium Paint Protection.....bugs never stick to the bumper! Also the Black paint is constantly baked on the car by the sun which may make it armor proof!

You wanna see bad, go look at the latest 330i or worse...
the Jaguar x-type. I had the opportunity to compare them all side by side. The A4 makes the other cars out there look like they were built by the keystone cops.

Depends on the wax. Try Meg's HI-TECH Yellow #26. Carnuba/Polymer blend...nice. Does not dry white.
