Are there any people in their early 30's and married with possible kids that find the A4 was a
 

mistake and you done it over you would have got an A6?

I'm trying to figure out if I am buying an A4 3.0 for the fun factor or if the car has a fun factor and is practical. Concerned I am going to say in a year or two that this car is not mature enough for me.

Im 33, Married, one child, Never even considered the A6, Too Soft. A4 much more youthfull and Fun.

I think most people love to drive a smaller car too

In fact, after I got my '00 A4 sedan, my wife decided to get an '02 Avant when her car reached retirement. I love them both. If you have more than two kids, it would be too small, but otherwise I don't see it being an issue. We've made several long trips in it and have always had enough room, even with a baby, baby-luggage (car seat, pack-and-play, etc.), adult luggage for a week (in the winter) and Christmas presents for 2 familys.

If you are really concerned about the space, the little extra in the Avant might be just the thing for you. Some (myself included) think that the Avant is even more attractive than the sedan.

If I had kids, I would probably get something larger...kids have a tendency to grow like weeds...and I wouldn't want to be in the position you describe. With young kids, I would be afraid to buy anything nice either...at least until they are old enough to recognize rules.

I have had both. I went from an A6 to an A4.
 

The rear seat room is really negligible unless you have tall adults in the back constantly.

Otherwise, it is a serious step up in legroom from the previous gen A4. i have an S4 as well and can say that the rear seat room in the B6 A4 is superior.

The fun to drive factor is a tough one. If you want a phenominal grand tourer with plenty of power and some serious grip but not 100% sporty, I would go with the A6 4.2 with the sport package. Can't go wrong there. The car is beautiful inside and out and has a tremendous amount of space(almost as much as the SWB A8).

If you want a tight nimble package(get yer minds outta the gutter) I would opt for the A4 1.8t sport. If you want the best of both worlds, go with the 3.0.

Go with what you like, test drive them back to back. One word of advice. Lease rates on the 2.7t and 4.2 A6's are great as well as on the 3.0 A4.

I personally love my A4. the only thing I miss from my A6 is the power.
