Default Have no fear...

APR wil be recieving 2 R&D 2002 A4's in mid Nov. Expect software and exhausts to be right behind.

Happy Motoring,

They have chips available for the 02 Passat so your theory is incorrect.

Default The factory has been trying to "lock out" chip tuners for a while...

In fact, Volvo has employed some of the harder encryption on their ECUs.

GIAC has the CM box (late 02 Passat 1.8T) code just about finished up, and this is pretty much the same challenge on the 02 A4. GIAC did have to rewrite some of their decryption software to work with new Bosch code, and it appears to have been successful.

The factory keeps trying, but the chippers keep succeeding!

Default Ok, so it looks like chipping is going to happen, but what about question #2...

will we still be able to chip a spare ECU or will the ECU be specifically coded to a car?

Default chips are already out in Europe... unless U.S. ECU's are different... check out this URL

<a href="http://www.wetterauer.de/web/fzg/ukaudia418t150psmod2001.html"> Wetterauer's site in Germany</a>

http://www.wetterauer.de/web/fzg/ukaudia418t150psmod2001.html

They are already selling chips to bump the Euro versions from 150hp to 190hp...

So it is possible (unless they encrypt U.S. market ones differently)
