Default Timing Belt Failed - Worth dealing with Audi?

My timing belt just failed on my '98 A4 1.8T. I saw the info on this site about the recent class action settlement. So I contacted AoA and they questioned me about maintenance. I explained that I had third party maintenance since the warranty ran out and they were vague about covering it. They opened a claim a told me to take it to an Audi dealer for investigation. One dealer here in Denver said it wouldn't be covered. Another said "you never know" and to bring it in, and it will be $110 to look at it.

Does anyone know where I can get the details of Audi's obligation in this settlement? I am wondering if it is worth dealing with Audi if they are going to deny it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Default did I miss something here???

Your timing belt went on your 1998 car and you want Audi to fix it for free? Care to elaborate a bit more?

Have you been keeping up with the maintaince of the car?

Default You missed the Class Action Settlement for 97 - 99 A4 1.8Ts here.....

Regular maintenance was performed. Just not by Audi. AoA is not being helpful. I am getting the settlement details from the law firm.

Default oh that sounds intereting

but doesn't that mean that someone has to prove
1) it's a known defective part (lower quality that expected)
2) Audi knew that the part is defective and didn't do anything about it
3) it's not just normal wear and tear that ripped the belt apart
