I'm a little with bboissonneault, but then I am an engineer. I assume you don't believe the read-out on the dash. I do, but in the old days, this is what I would do:
1) Next time you fill up your car, zero your odometer.
2) Next time you fill up, simply take the number of miles on the odometer and divide by the gallons that are on the pump read out. Should be something like: 300 to 400 miles / 13 to 15 gallons = 20 to 25 mpg.
Warning: your mileage vary depending on driving conditions...
