Default Ugh. A week after having a torn driver's side inner CV boot replaced, now the outer boot is torn.

You may recall last Monday while having new tires mounted and an alignment performed the shop discovered that the driver's side inner CV boot was torn. A few days later after the repair I noticed some black material on the driver's side front wheel. I thought I might have driven through something so I didn't think much of it. Now this morning I noticed the amount of material had increased. Upon closer visual inspection inside the wheel there is a large amount of black grease on the wheel. Great.

This evening being lazy and not wanting to jack the car up to take off the wheel for confirmation of the tear I took a hand held mirror and a flash light, placed the mirror behind the inner side of the wheel and directed the light at the mirror to illuminate the boot. Sure enough, the wide side of the boot (where it meets the wheel bearing or what ever part that is) is damp with grease. I guess I'll be going in to have that one replaced ASAP. I know it could be pure coincidence but I am wondering if the outer boot could have been damaged when the axle was out having the inner boot replaced. What pain in the butt. Ughhh.

I hate to say it, but sometimes shops rip the boots if they know you will pay for them to repair it.

or save the hassle and just replace the axle, esp if it's the inner boot

Does the axle need to be removed to replace the outer boot?

I don't have any experience with the RS5 but I will get the B8 over the B9 any day!!!

There is a pristine 2013 for sale near my place. 13,000 miles, Never seen rain/snow. Perfect condition. 3M to doors. Loaded incl. Ceramic brakes, Titanium Pkg., Sport Exhaust. If I had a garage to put her, I would trade my new S5 in a heartbeat!
