Default Update -Battery vs Alternator Problem. $980 for new alternator....

Have posted on B5 too, but also value info form both sites. What should it cost? This sounds outrageous to me. Dealer just did an engine rebuild, only had car back a week. They said battery was ok, tests showed it was the alternator. 2001 A4 1.8T

Default Car is at the dealer, and since they just had to take it out. to do engine

rebuild and then replace it afterwards, I am going try to get them to pay for it, but if I'm not successful, is this what a dealer would/should charge. I undertstand they are a pain to replace.

Default Oil pump failure due to sludge build up, wanted over $8K to fix....

but I filed a claim with AOA and I only had to pay $250. They had the car for 5 weeks to rebuild the engine, new turbo, bigger oil filter, syn oil. Only had it back a week, when this happened. Now am back in loaner car, free, car is out of warranty , 70K miles on it.

Default bhvrdr - Reached agreement with dealer, since they did not move the radiator & other parts....

to really get a good look at the connections, he admitted that their diagnosis of an internal problem with the alternator could still be wrong, so I went ahead & got a new Bosch one for $270 + $75 core charge from alloemaudiparts.com, dealer wanted $699 for rebuilt one. Have to go to Oregon on Weds & need it fixed. If they are wrong, dealer agreed to no labor ( $275) and I return the one I bought, if they are right, I saved about $430 by buying my own. Pretty fair , I thought. Thnx for your input & also great info from RKA.
