W8 belly pan install.

I replaced my old destroyed belly pan with a new W8 passat one a couple weeks ago. All in all it was pretty straight forward and well worth the savings vs. the Audi part ($170+shipping vs $90 from the local VW dealer).

Anyway, here's old and new:

As you can see they're pretty similar, and for the most part the VW one bolted right in. I was able to use the three bolts in the back that connect to the metal hanger/support and two in the front.

And here's the finished product:

The only part that didn't really fit was the connection to the wheel well/fender liner. I ziptied it in for now, but is there another piece that works in connection with the clip shown in the foreground? Or do they just press in?

I noticed a few things while I was under the car...the one that got my attention was this:

It's kinda hard to tell from the pics, but from what I recall it looked like this was part of the front subframe. I don't think this was caused by ice, so I think it must be from before I got the car. It's like a probably 1.5" long gouge in the support. Does this look like something to be concerned about?

And finally, it looks like I'm due for a new snub:

Good job, looks great.

Nice work. Looks like the vents could help cool the turbo on a 1.8T...

and bring more air in for those that are running a Cold Air Intake.

Is the plastic on the W8 pan more rigid than the OEM?

Well done. Looks like a snub mount is in your future. You going to the GTG on Wednesday?

Nice work. I like your wooden ramps.

Ditto on the wooden ramps. Nice ingenuity.

Hey, whats the PN for the W8 belly pan?

Mines torn up too...

SilverSchwinn 04-15-2007 06:22 PM

TY. I was expecting it to require more work matching it up, but it pretty much just slid in.

SilverSchwinn 04-15-2007 06:23 PM

Might be a bit stiffer as the connection to the fender liners is one piece vs. the multi part

connection of the stock setup. I think the thickness of the plastic was pretty close though. Plus the original one has seen better days.

I plan on being there. I have mtgs all week with an important client, so hopefully we don't run

late. FYI, the motive bleeder I got was broken, so I'm awaiting delivery of a replacement. Should be here early this week.
