Default What the hell??

Ok so I finally got my license plates from DMV after my newly leased A4. I take off the snazzy "Auto Gallery" frame and the silver plate below it, and what do I find but a flat black panel. About a half inch to an inch thick. At first glance I realize the thing is bigger than the license plate itself by at least an inch.

When you position the license plate up with the screw holes, the black panel under it hangs out by a good inch. Looks horrible.

Had to get a special screw thingy to undo whatever was holding the black panel on and when I try to pry it off, its literally stuck to the very back setting with adhesive crap. I can see it stretch as I try to pull on it.

Even if I put a frame around the license plate, the black is going to hang out the bottom.

What the heck is this? Who planned it that way? Standard on all A4's?

Default are you talking about this?

front or rear? my front one had no adhesive, haven't tried the back. i am pretty sure it is there to protect the paint from being scratched by your license plate.

Use a dremel or hacksaw and trim off excess. I did this and it looks much better.

They're too big so you won't take off the dealer-advertising license plate frame
