Window Switch vs Regulator Failure?

Hi All

My 2005 A4 Avant's driver's door window operation has become
erratic and I could use some help with the symptoms.

About a year ago, the 'auto-up' feature of the window stopped
working. With the window open, a momentary pull up on the
switch did not cause the window to close fully. Holding the
switch up closed the window normally.

Yesterday, when the window was fully open, I pulled up on
the switch and nothing happened - no movement, no noise.
Tried several times with the same result. I pushed the switch
down (win still fully open), then up and it closed normally.
This has happened twice now and I've avoided opening the
window because I'm afraid of ending up with it stuck open.

Do these symptoms sound like the switch itself (I hope) or
something more serious (expensive)?

Are the switches in the driver's side armrest individually replaceable or does the entire 4-switch panel need to be
replaced? Anybody have part numbers?

It looks like there's a pop-off panel under the hand pull
of the armrest. Once that's off, any gotchas to removing the
armrest without breaking something else? Once it's off, I
thought of swapping some wires around to check the switch.

Thanks!
Joe

Well first verify the wiring in the door jam. Peel back the rubber boot and inspect all the wires. Its soo common for one or 2 wires to break and then the window wont work. If the wires are good its probably the switch since auto down stopped working first.
