Default 08 A4 Torsen or Haldex?

Is the 08 A4 6 speed manual Quattro a Torsen or Haldex system. If it is Torsen, which type?

Default Torsen...as far as the specific Torsen...it'd be a T-1

The S4/RS4 with the 60/40 static split is a T-3 IIRC

How about the A4 with manual transmission?

Default Don't think so. Torsen T2.

I did a lot of digging on this long before I bought my A4...when I had a jeep. The T1 has been largely discontinued as a unit by the Torsen (actually JTEKT) company. Audi stopped using T1's in the A4 at the '95 model year. They had moved to T2's in all the cars by '97. So, all the B7's (and there onward) are very likely T2. Except the RS ones (as you say) ...which with their fancy torque split might be the T3. The S5 (and maybe A5) is a T3 as well. The T3 is an interesting beast...I don't have the drawings (as I do for the others) but I believe it is 2 diffs connected together in one unit.

Interesting. Per Torsen website it doesn't list 2005 & up type for the A4. I left an email for their product info.

The T1 seems like its the best with a mechanical locking diff. I know our models have EDL, but I would like to know if there are 3 differentials, front, center & rear and what oil maintenance do they require?

Default uhh...no sir...

in the 01A/01E transmission cars, the differential is the exact same diff as Torsen's "University Special", which is a T-1. The only difference between the A and E diffs is that the E diff is slightly larger.

Default I think you are correct. It's a T1.

The info I have is from an old sales rep for Zexel. I was told the old "University Special" (part M021DHU now the 12000!) was not used any longer. I did some more digging...found a number of pix on the web from B6/B7 cars. They are clearly the T1 units...they don't have the parallel gearing as in the T2.

Images here show a T1.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206706">B6 T1 torsen work</a></li></ul>
