18" winter tires?
i have my 6-spd 2006 a4 3.2 s-line on order and was wondering about winter tires with the 18" s-line rims. I live in montreal and have heard that driving on 18"s in the winter is a big no-no. Should I just get 18" winter tires or go and buy 17" rims and winter tires for our 5 month winter? thanks

no brainer. get 17 inch steels with covers and snows.
save your sweet s-line rims from the salt and ****. BELIEVE me.
also- you'll save your s-lines from being damaged by mounting and unmounting the tires AND it comes out cheaper because switching rims is much less expensive than mounting/unmounting tires at the beginnning and end of each season.
you'll thank me later. i lived in south dakota and DC. i'd recommend the pilot alpin 2s. good for two heavy snow seasons, at least.

Just asked the guys I work with, they design snow tires...
Bigger Aspect Ratio and Narrower tires are better in the snow. Narrower tires will cut through the snow, and bigger aspect ratio will be nicer to your rims.
