2.0T Cold Starting Survey
I've seen some threads on this, but I still can't believe it's normal. My new 06 a4 2.0T at about 800miles. When it's cold out it takes about 3 to 4 seconds to crank. I'm using 93 octane fuel. How many other people are having this problem, and is there anyone NOT having the problem (in under 50F weather)?

Did you try putting key in the "on" position for a few seconds, then starting?
Maybe it has something to do with fuel pressure needing to build. Otherwise if you truly feel it is troublesome you should have it checked for DTCs.

No, but I'll try that. I have a VAG Tool comming also. I was hoping to have the car chipped @ APR durring the Halloween promo to get the free EMCS but I guess I better wait to make sure everything is okay first.

Re: My B5 rarely cranked on the first try, crank 2-sec-pause-crank 2nd time and it lights right up.
1.8T ? or v6? My 1.8T passat, stock and chipped never had a problem starting.

YES
Had that issue the other morning with my '06 2.0T here in DC. a good 5-10 seconds of trying. I finally just assumed it was the fuel not fully heated (under pressure with the FSI) and it worked. Audi has apparently rigged it to where the pump heats up when you open the driver side door, but I'm still being careful now and turning the key halfway for a few seconds before advancing it all the way.
Glad to hear someone else had the same issue and it's not just mine. Asked the dealership and they said they haven't heard of the problem yet. Definitely a concern since I'm thinking about chipping it very soon and it's a lease, but other than the chip I wouldn't worry about it. Just let the fuel heat up for a few seconds.
