2.0TQ Tip: Does mileage improve when you go full "manual"?
I get around 380 miles per tank with mixed city/highway driving. When I go full "manual" on the Tip including downshifts, I get around 430 miles per tank. Does anyone have similar experience?

Of course not.
In fact, over 58,000 miles, I found the exact opposite to be true.
The computer can select the most economical gear alot faster and more accurately than any driver.
When I would shift my Tip manually, I invariably held a gear far longer than the computer would have if it had been in "D".
Shifting the Tip on your own may be a little more "fun" and there were times where I had more control shifting my own (in snow) but shifting the Tip yourself will never be more economical.

You win.
I didn't realize you had vast experience driving your mom's VW Bug.
But seriously....
The OP was not asking whether a manual transmission could get better fuel economy than a Tip.
He was asking if he should get better fuel economy shifting his TIP manually. And the answer is no.
If he is driving normally, the Tip will get better mileage shifting itself.
If he trying to "hypermile", he might be able, with intense concentration, to match what the Tip can achieve itself with just very light throttle applications.
Those are the facts.
