Default 2005.5 A4 vs. S4

I just finished paying off my A4 which I bought new not quite 4 yrs ago and has not given me a single problem yet. I was searching the internet and stumbled upon a 2005.5 S4 with pretty much all the options - priced at $25.5k. KBB value on my car is about $15k. My A4 has 50k miles and the S4 has 58k miles. From what I saw online, seems like a sweet deal and I'm gonna try to schedule a test drive.

However, the S4 is located at a non-audi dealership and is therefore not certified pre-owned.

Should I be scared off since it is not a certified pre-owned? Should I just be content with having my A4 paid off and enjoy driving that for a few more years? I would love to get into the S4, but I've never bought a used car before and I'm slightly hesitant, especially since its not certified. Without negotiating with the dealership, worst case I'd have to pay 10k for the car, which I'm not worried about.

What do you all think?

Why not have some more fun with the A4? Have you thought about chip/exhaust etc? You can make your A4 run a lot faster and still pootle along and get over 30mpg on the highway when you want...something you cannot do in an S4. Perhaps go a little nutty and get a Stasis power pack and give an S4 a run for it's money? I'm certainly thinking along the same lines once I finish paying for my A4 Avant..there's something satisfying about a wolf in sheep's clothing....

Cheers,

Nick

i briefly thought about modding the A4, but I've never modded any car i've had and not sure i'm looking to start. im just worried that if i start modding now and something happens it will be expensive to fix since i'm outside warranty. i also feel that if i chip/mod now it will also increase the odds of something breaking on the car.

get the trial APR chip for free and see how you like it. I think it lasts for 6 driving hours or something.

I've modded both my Avants to date and neither time has the chip caused engine problems. The B7 platform appears to have a stronger clutch than the old B5 I used to drive and I have over 30,000 miles on my APR chip and no problems to date. If you're thinking about spending another ~10K on an S4, you can get your A4 into pretty good shape for a lot less and still keep some money aside for repairs/maintenance...just a thought! Beware though, once you start tinkering with the car, you may just find yourself hankering to do more than you first thought you would!

Enjoy!
