Hey all, I am looking at an A4 that has some issues and was curious if anyone else in the community has an opinion on whats wrong.

I believe there are a few things that could be wrong, chain tensioner, bad HPFP cam follower, bad seals on the timing housing. Thoughts?

That thing sounds like a loud ticking time bomb. Imo is has possible everything you mentions + a possible screwed intake camshaft and hpfp... Id leave that car rite where its at with the existing owner. Unless it on the cheap and you are willing to fix it yourself

Yea, the plan would be to fix the issues and get a decent first car for my daughter. Everything else in the car seems solid, the major code its throwing is P0016, and if the price is right I would even be willing to do an engine swap, obviously I would rather not. Unfortunately the seller isn't really willing to come down to a reasonable price considering the entire engine may need to be swapped, the car also has 170k miles on it. It does sound like its more than just the tensioner though.
