Default Super Newb Qs

Hey all.Proud owner of a "new to me" 2008 A4 2.0 S-Line.Car has 33k miles and will be due for an oil change soon.I'd like to do my own oil services and from reading multiple threads on here the oil I should be using should be either Castrol or Mobil 1 0W40.my questions are: can I safely use 5W40 Full SYN since it seems to be more readily available? Also,do I really need any special tools to remove the oil filter canister? The tool I'm referring to is the knurled do-hickey that spins on the bottom of the filter housing. I don't mind spilling a little oil when removing the filter. So do I really need itCan I just use a 39mm (I think) socket? Any insider tips would be great>Thanks in advance.-Andy.

Default Oil specs

You need to use oil that meets VW/Audi 502.00 spec, if you want to keep your warranty. The only Mobil 1 that meets the spec is 0W-40.

Here's a list from AoA of approved oils...

Thanks. How do you all feel about oil extrtaction rather than dropping the belly pan?I'm kinda leaning that way for the sake of convenience. Is there an extractor that might be the best choice for me?Thanks for any replies.-Andy.

You can definitely change the filter without the drain tool (#T40057) but it makes a big mess. I used an extractor to change my oil a couple times, but I'm not sure it saved any time. Still need to drop the belly pan to change the filter.
