Default A4 2.0tq from Suby Legacy GT wag

I'm about to go into an A4 Avant 2.0tq from a Legacy GT wagon manual. My question is transmission-related. Those of you with Tip, do you miss the manual? I'd prefer the 6-sp, but since the wife'll drive, too, and she's not super talented with the manual....

TIA,

rev

Default Keep it in "S"

The "S" mode is much more aggressive than "D" and will keep the revs higher. I also went with Tip because of my wife, who drives this car most of the time anyway.

You can also always just use the manual mode and go through the gears yourself.

Default I have the Tip

If you're a "Give me manual or give me death" kind of guy, you'll hate the Tip (or ANY auto).

If you just prefer manual but can live with a really flexible and great automatic, you won't be disappointed.

I suggest test driving one first.

Start with D(which is programmed to give great fuel economy) and see how smooth it is.

Then try S (which is programmed to really hold revs and provides ALOT of zip....sometimes too much actually)

Then try the "manual" gate.

It's much better than the 5 speed TIP from the B6, but it's still not a manual and anyone claiming that it's the same doesn't know what they're talking about.

If I had it to do over again, I'd still get the TIP.

I'm very satisfied, and I like manuals.

You stay in S plus the APR flash, not a hint of lag.

Default when you say "tip" what trans are you talking about?

Are you talking about the normal automatic quattro w/tiptronic or the front wheel drive multitronic transmission? From what you wrote it sounds like you have a CVT Multitronic transmission. I hate when people say they have the tip transmission when they have a CVT.

Default I have the Tiptronic.

My 05.5 A4 2.0T Quattro has the Tiptronic.

I used to have a Multitronic CVT in my 02 1.8T Frontrack.

So, I do know the difference. ;-)
