How good is it really? I have heard a lot of people saying that it is the best sports car you can buy for the dollar...agree? Not agree?
Considering getting one (used, but '05 or newer) with a buddy, and want to know how it raelly is, TIA.

Out of the box it is a fantastic sportscar for the money. The handling is impressive and the build quality is normal Honda.
The shortfalls? Torque. On older models the gearbox syncros were weak. No tilt wheel. The motor is at 99.9%, FI is needed for any real power improvement.
If you are looking for a weekend warrior, it is a great choice. It is kind of pricy just for autocross though--get a Miata if that is what you want.

Roommate has one.I've driven it a bunch.....
It's a quick little SOB with point and go handling. The back end will go out on you in a second but it comes back pretty easily. No traction control so you should know what you are doing. You really have to rev it pretty damn high to get the most out of it. It's fun to drive but I personally couldn't deal with it every day. It's too loud, small and exhausting to drive daily for me. But as a track/weekend car, it's alot of fun.

I'm interested in an AP1 model (pre 2002 or so)..
The AP1 model has the F20C engine which goes to 9000 rpm. The later cars have the 2.2 liter engine which has a bit more torque, but only goes to 8000 rpm.
I've driven an AP1 car and it is very raw and the engine is exhilerating.
It's nothing like an A4.
You might also consider the BMW M roadster.. from 98-2000 they used the 240hp E36 M3 USA engine. Similar power to the s2000, but _way_ more torque.. .much more drivable car.. with typical BMW luxury appointments. These cars are showing up in the teens now. Starting in 01 or so they switched to the S54 engine - the motor out of the current E46 M3. It makes 315hp in the M roadster due to packaging issues on the exhaust. Those cars are in the mid 20k range.

I had one for 5 years
and loved it. It was a 02 AP1 that I used on the track a lot. It was a fantastic car, and it still remains as my favorite vehicle of all time. If I didn't have to move to upstate NY where it snows unbelieveable amount I would've never sold it. Perfect handling, great ride, and surprisingly comfortable (for a two seater convertable anyway). The drivetrain was much stronger then I expected. The transmission was always smooth (except 2nd gear at times), and my engine was rebuilt with turbo. Never had a single problem with it even after I'd beat it to death on the track every summer. If your willing to sacrifice luxury (you're not gonna get anything more then AC and Radio/CD player), and comfort (it is surprisingly comfortable, but within the limits of a convertable) then there just isn't a better car to have fun with (IMHO). Downsides are that the car isn't powerful, and forget using it on winter condition (even with snow tires). S2000 is really a street legal track car (not much practicality...don't get me started on the trunk space). Hope you get one, and have the same great experience I had with that car.

Great Choice
but watch that 2nd gear. It likes to grind hehe. The AP2 syncros fixed that (as far as I know). Also if your considering AP1, get 02 or newer. The older ones have plastic sheet-thing for rear window that I've always hated (the 02+ have actual glass), and cloth center console instead of leather.
