As a first time B7 owner, (German auto fan), I am quite happy with my '08 except for one issue, I can't get the bluetooth to pair. When I try to pair using either my device or the wheel button, all I get is a "not found" or "unable to locate" error. I did notice that I do not have the cradle in my center armrest, is it necessary for bluetooth operation?

Yes - quite possible your car does not have the bluetooth module installed. With the ignition turned on, as soon as I do a Bluetooth scan from my phone, my car shows up as a pairable component. Also the paring has to occur within 5 mins of the ignition being turned on.
