Coil pack diagnosis?
I've done a search, but couldn't find an answer. If I have a coil pack failure out on the road and don't have access to a VAG tool, how can I determine which ignition coil is bad? Can I have the engine running while pulling out each coil one at a time and trying a new one in it's place and see if the car runs smooth? I haven't had a coil pack failure yet, but have purchased a couple of spares just in case it happens.
Thanks

Can you unplug injector connectors on this motor?
that's the standard procedure on non-FSI motors. Unplug injectors 1 at a time while idling. When you pull one that makes no difference, you've found the bad coil location.

Another way to do it
Just unplug the coil packs at their connectors the same way you would unplug an injector. Just a little more difficult due to the harness in the plactic housing.
