Creaking from the Center Console....

or maybe it's coming from the front seats. But either way I know I have seen a post regarding this and was wondering if anyone has figured out what is causing this and maybe even resolved it. All I know at this point is that it annoys the hell out of me and a brand new car shouldn't be doing this!

have you talked to the dealer yet?

Re: Creaking from the Center Console....

I had the same problem. I sprayed all contact points with WD40 in the armrest and the inside of the lift tab, or lever that opens the armrest up. If you look inside the lever, there are metal springs that keep the tension, this causes some of the noise. Other areas to pay attention to is the base of the armrest where it attaches to the console. Be sure to cover the seats and carpet when spraying the oil. I did this a little over a week ago, and so far, so good.

Haven't talked to the dealer yet, I was going to do that soon if it gets worse. Otherwise I was going to wait till my 5K service which should be in another 1.5 - 2 months.

Thanks for the info on that, I'll have to see about trying that if it gets really really bad and I can't make it into the dealer to see what they say.

Thanks again for the info and advice.

my passenger seatbelt latch would rub against the seat. you might try a piece of velcro on the

latch towards the seat. lowering the seat also worked for me

A4's have creaked there for years....

The base of the armrest and the plastic shroud coving the center tunnel are not well seated. Every turn, every pothole. My B5 and My B6 have both creaked in this area.

Once I complained the the Audi "noise" team in Germany, and I recieved an Email back about 30 days later! It had two PDFs with informtion on how to fix the problem. I never bothered to have the dealer do it because the instructions (in German) were not for the location of the creak! Nice of them to respond though. Sad the the B6 and now B7 also suffer.

i have mine brought back to the dealership after the 2nd week...

...the problem came from underneath the auto-shifter cover thing. They tried to fix it twice.. but no luck. I found out that if u push/press the chrome shifter plate down a bit... the noice will be gone.
Anyway... if your dealer can fix that, let me know too!! (I'm in the bayarea as well)

btw...which dealership u bring the car to?? (mine was in SJ)

good luck!

I'm in San Jose so I am taking it into Stevens Creek Porsche / Audi. I'll have them take a look at it once I need the 5K service (about 2K miles away), and let you know what they say.

I'll have to check this out since I noticed that the noise seems to disappear when I have a passenger in the car.
