Default Failed Coil Pack 200+ miles from home

I fell victim to a failed coil pack on Friday. Cruising along at about 100 mph I heard a *POW* and my car sounded like a dang WRX. I was driving home from Las Vegas and was a little over 215 miles from home, and about 175 miles from Las Vegas with no Audi or VW dealers with coil packs in between. I had Vag-Com on my laptop and my cable with me so I was able to pull the codes to find out exactly what had happened.

Here's the good ending to the story - I called my Audi dealer - Ken Garff Audi in Orem, UT. It just so happened that my Audi tech was heading down my way after work on Friday evening to go Rock Crawling. He got the coil pack from parts and after waiting a few hours for him he showed up and replaced my coil pack and I was on my way home. If that's not extreme customer service I don't know what is...

We hear many stories here about bad service. In this case my dealer went above and beyond.

John

PS - I'm going to start carrying a coil pack with me...

Default What luck....

I guess a coil pack is easy to replace. You must carry tools. Had them changed in my B5 and B6 by dealer.

Lesson learned. I've never had one fail in my last 6 Audis though.

Oh man. Are the B7's infected by this problem as well? Didn't think the 2.0's were as bad...

Default excellent service!

I actually had an emergency service that worked out well from them too, while traveling cross country. That's great news though, and yeah, I'm going to have all our coil packs replaced and still carry a spare.

Cheers,

Rich
