Foul weather and S-line
Thinking about trading in my Passat for an 2.0T A4 Quattro. I live in Ohio where the winters can get nasty so I'm wondering if I should get the S-line with 18" wheels or stick with the standard 17"s. Are 18's + quattro gonna work in snow?

Get the 18" wheels for good weather. Get a second set
of 4 snow tires on 16 or 17" wheels and you will be fine
|
18"s are fine in the winter. I put 225/40/18 Blizzak LM25s and ran fine all winter last year.
|
It's simply a cost factor. If you can afford a second set of wheels...
then go for the 18"s.

With a good tire you won't have any problems on 18s. I live in Colorado...
..and run Dunlop WinterSport 235/40-18 without any issues. Combined with Quattro, you can go anywhere that you have ground clearance :)

18s with pilot sport a/s tires worked well enough in chicago ...
what doesn't work with the 18s is the nasty pothole-laced roads after a winter of heavy salting. my wheels are chipped to hell from the battering. you probably have the same issue in OH.
