Gas Mileage (Again...)

Gas Mileage (Again...)
Logged about 190 highway miles over Christmas and got 30.2 MPG per trip computer. Normal day to day has been about 22 MPG on congested back-roads in NJ suburban driving. That's pretty close to the EPA estimate on the window sticker.

Depends on the roads...
I've seen as much as 34 mpg sustained on flat highways, but it drops like a rock with the slightest incline. Local, mixed driving can average anywhere fron 23 to 27 mpg.

Re: Gas Mileage (Again...)
Don't go by trip computer...unusually optimistic, even the ave comsumption feature. Need to do a fill-up, use most of tankful, fill-up again, divide miles by gallons. The only accurate way.

True, but the Trip Computer Average makes me feel better
Averaged 44 mpg on rolling hills on a 100 km run at 95 km/hr
Before you say wtf!, that's 45 miles per imperial gallon (6.4 l/100km). I reset the trip computer once I got to speed, so it does not include the agressive on-ramp acceleration.

Re: True, but the Trip Computer Average makes me feel better
I figured with the kilos instead of miles. While we all are looking for good gas mileage in our Audi's, we're just fooling ourselves if we want selective readings(resets) from the trip computer or choose to rely on its accuracy.
It would not seem far fetched to me for Audi to tweak it in order to keep those drivers who believe its the real deal happy.
Mine showed a steady 32-33 MPG on a straight 100 mile freeway trip, but turned out to be 26 in real life at the pump!

It started empirically [more]
A lot of the early mileage reports when the '05.5 B7s started being available were mixed between positive and disappointing, but it was interesting that a seeming majority of the positive reports were from people with Quartz Gray cars. Interesting, but what was the underlying reason? Were there simply more QG cars? Do people that are drawn to that mid-range color also have a personality type that tends to drive less aggressively? Or is it a physical property of the car itself, that the QG base coat results in a smoother finish or a solar reflection/absorption that roils the air in a way that creates a cushion beneficial to the drag coefficient?
