i removed the plastic ashtray inside the circled area and used the space below as a coin holder. with audi making the best interiors in the biz, i was suprised they overlooked this. anyway, it worked great until i started to overfill it, and took a corner one day. a coin fell through the back and now the cover (pictured) won't open all the way. does anyone know if there is a way to open it up and get back there without having to remove parts of the center console?

I did the very same thing... So...
I mentioned it to the dealer when I took it in for the 5K service... He told me it would be about $100 to remove the coin as they have to pull the AC contols to get to it... I told him I used to always keep coins in the ashtray of my B6 with no such problems... He agreed to fix it gratis "one time only"... Needless to say I don't keep coins in there anymore...

i guess im not the only one...
lol i thought i was the only one...i too have plenty of coins fall in and now I can barely open it. I haven't got around trying to take that part of the console out yet...maybe I ask the dealer

Plead ingorance, look dumb and act stupid and "maybe" the dealer will have sympathy... Or have...
your girlfriend or wife take it in and cry... That always works... As long as the service writer is a guy (and not gay)...

Im glad im not the only one with this problem also....
So how do you take out the panel around the shifter if that is the only way to get access to the lost coin. I really want to get that stupid coin out of there
