Default high pressure vs low pressure fuel pump

I'm sorry if this is a basic question, but what is the difference between the high pressure fuel pump and the low pressure fuel pump? I just got the notice about the warranty extension on the high pressure fuel pump, but apparently on my car the low pressure fuel pump is what is broken, and I was just wondering what the difference is. Thanks in advance!

Yes it is still running, I guess I was a little unclear. My car is running, but the MIL kept coming on. The tech said it was the low pressure fuel pump that was causing my MIL to come on. I don't know what the pressure readings are. I guess the low presssure fuel pump pushes the gas from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump at the engine.

That is correct.
How He/She came to the conclusion that the fuel pump failed, pressure readings?

The high pressure pump sits on top of your engine.
The low pressure fuel pump is in your fuel tank.
