I AM NEW TO QUATTRO TURBO MANUAL.
ONE DAY I ACCIDENTLY LAUNCHED THE CAR AROUND @2~3000RPM AND THE CAR RAN LIKE A BULLET IN 1ST GEAR. I DON'T KNOW HOW I DID THAT BUT IT WAS CRAZY. ANY CLUE? WHAT HAVE I DONE?
I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THAT BUT I COULDN'T DO IT ANYMORE.

Nice way to destroy your clutch and tranny.

Default Awww come on, the occassional 3K rpm launch is what makes these cars so much fun : )

The clutch in the 2.0T is much better than the 1.8 but it'll still die quickly.

As for the Tranny, my last car was a Stage III 1.8T with a Spec III clutch, I've launched that car numerous times at 3-4K, after 87K miles the tranny was fine.

The Quattro drive train is solid, the stock clutch is the fuse. Launch it often and be prepared to do a 2K dollar clutch replacment.

Default bOunCe ThE nEeDLe BeTwEEn 4o0oRpM and 55o0RPm AnD dUmP It oN tHe UpSwInG.

Annoying isn't it. Anyways, like zerin said, it is a way to get a great launch but is harder on the drivetrain components. If you dont slip it you should be fine for many miles. I put 15K on my stock clutch with 310lbs of tq and weekly tough tough launches and it never died but did glaze when I slipped it so I upgraded the clutch and romped on that one for another 25K miles with no problems. Your results may vary. cheers! Mike

Yup, also the flywheel can be resurfaced and an upgraded clutch with intsall for less than $1000.

Default I guess i'm still gunshy after having two B5 S4 transmissions replaced under warranty :)

Though I doubt those issues were related to launching the car, since I hardly launched it before the 2nd one was put in.

Default Understood, The B5 S4 tranny may as well have been made of glass : )

But I know I've abused the hell out of the B5 box and Its still running strong.

We have at least two people on our local site (DTWAudi.com) that have had problems with the S4 gearbox, mostly Synchro issues
