Keys went through the wash
My wife washed my keys in my pants pocket. Fortunately the washer was on "cold," and she discovered her mistake before they made it to the dryer.
The remote seemed to be working, but the car wouldn't recognize it till I put the key in the ignition -- a sign the remote had lost power.
I cracked it open and found the battery area was a little wet. So I took out the three screws and pried it open.
The folding key unwinds when you open it. There's apparently one turn of "preload" on the spring so it snaps into position with the right amount of force.
I pulled out the circuit board and dabbed it dry with a paper towel. I used a hair dryer to dry out the case halves.
It was a little tricky to put it back together, especially the folding key -- you have to put it together under tension. But eventually I got it back together.
After putting it in the ignition, the remote seems to work again. I don't know how much battery life was lost due to the short-circuiting.
I can't imagine I'm the first one to go through this. What's the long-term prognosis for my remote? Ideas/comments?

As long as it's completely dried out, it should be fine. I've seen remotes go thru the wash
and after waiting for the remote to dry out, they work fine, no issues.

Hehe
I took my remote apart back in June or so when my remote started failing to see if I could find a loose connction inside.
LOL you are so right about it being a total bitch to get back together due to that little spring.
