... the process be like?

How much do the dealers negotiate when you are buying a car that they do not have to hold in inventory? Logic would say that they can stick you with a very high price, or keep pushing you over to buy a car out of stock.

I do not want to invest hours putting together an order, and then have them ask for full sticker price.

How long does it take for delivery?

Default Invoice + fees + $500

Just got a quote in NoCal for an A4.

Invoice + $150 advertising fee + $195 port prep fee + $500.

I would negotiate an above invoice price before even sitting down and configuring a car.

Default Writing an order

I knew exactly the car I wanted and I e-mailed the dealership which happened to be in Washington State, University, and I asked them for their best price. They wrote back immediately, said they had access to that car, what the MSRP was and their price to me. I asked them to throw in wheel locks and for the total out the door price and they provided that right away. Then all I had to do was drive down with the wife's Acura as a tradein and negotiate. They met my trade-in price and I wrote a check for the balance. Bought the car that day and it was a very good car buying experience.

Default I ordered my car, and dealer gave me a good price

Sure they had nothing in inventory since i ordered it before the first B7 came in, but he took his price list and got me a good deal

A good dealer will give you an as good price if you order it or if you take what he have in stock, especially if you want something less common
