Loud constant squeak/scream coming from the center of engine?? HELP! 2006 A4

I have heard when the diaphragm in the diverter valve gets a hole in it there will be a loud whistling noise. I don't know if it takes a couple of seconds for the boost pressure to subside after turning off engine. The "piccolo pete" sound does sound like the sound a DV with a tear would make. The tear will whistle when the pressurized air escapes. The turbo is towards the center of the car but a little off to the passenger side. It is on the bumper side of the engine.

Check the PCV valve. Mine went bad. When it did, it made a loud sound at idle. I would characterize the sound as a loud squeal. It also made the engine idle and run rough.
It's not that expensive to replace and an easy DIY. Just don't get the rubber gasket, unless yours is damaged. IIRC, it costs almost as much as the PCV valve.

Could Be Faulty Crankcase Pressure Control Valve
My 2006 2.0T with 60,000 miles recently suffered some of the same symtoms. Strong Audi diagnosed and reparied the problem. Apparently, a diaphram in this valve has been tearing which results in a screaming sound as air ruches in. I also had a CEL with "knock sensor too high" and "intake manifold leak" fault codes. My repair cost about $200.

My 2008 has started making a squealing/whistling noise after may 25 miles. It stops once I press the gas pedal but returns on coasting or idling. I'm hoping your suggestion is my issue as it's a relatively cheap fix.

Ditch those plastic PCV units.......

BTW- my guess before the ultimate outcome was posted......bad PCV. Yep.
A bad turbo diverter valve makes no noises.......you just get poor/laggy performance. Good for you on getting it solved.
Haya.
